Looking at the Parts Fiche I would say that's a distinct possibility. There only appears to be one part number for the wheel except where there is a black wheel listed. There might be a problem in that an "error" code may well show up on the display. Anyway that one is food for thought for thought for the future.

On my other bike a K1300S I have just swapped from the original equipment Metzeler Sportec M3 to a set of Metzeler Roadtec 01s. The M3s gave great feel and grip but only lasted ~2,500 miles, having swapped to the 01s and done 2000 miles to Scotland this week I am super impressed with the good feel and what feels like a similar level of grip. Okay I am not on the edge of adhesion with my riding:-). A quick 800 mile motorway run there/back and 1200 spirited miles around Scotland and the tyres look like new... As a long time Michelin PR2/3/4 supporter I have to say I will be trying the HWM version on the RT next time they need replacing as the "effort" to turn feels much light with the Metzelers... All completely subjective I know, but there you go, that is tyres all over! Peter

Update: Rear dropped from by 1.5mm from 6.5 to 5.0 and the front less than a 1mm so that looks good for longevity too!

I went to the Roadtec 01 last April.  Unfortunately I managed to pick up a nail on my drive from having builders in and that was the end of the rear after about 1200 miles. As this happened 10 minutes prior to the start of a tour and there were 6 bikes waiting for me in the dealers car park I had them fit the only replacement available which was the standard rear not the HWM one.  To be honest I could not feel the difference in the wall between the two whereas on the Z8 the C rated one is very still compared to the standard M rate.
2000 miles down the line the back still looks like new as does the front which has now done just over 3000 miles.  All my riding is now done solo so I'm never well loaded .

If buying Z8's, Metzeler recommend (M) on the front & either (O) or (C) on the rear.

These are the approved Roadtec 01/Z8 pairings from Metzeler. I note that the K1600 requires a Roadtec 01 HWM front.

Does this fitting guide mean that tyres can be a mix of 01's & Z8's F&R, or vice versa.

It also confirms that when using a pair of Z8's, the fitment is front (M) & rear either (O) or (C).

They are confirming that a mix is acceptable.

Would be interesting to see an up to date BMW Motorrad tyre fitment guide for the LC.
