Garmin GPS and Canbus issues on RT

I want to fit a Garmin 390 GPS into the Canbus system on a 2007 R1200RT.
I have read some reports on forums that the 12v-5v converter lead supplied with the GPS "confuses" the Canbus system and the Canbus system does not turn the power off when the ignition is turned off, hence the battery goes flat.

Has anyone installed a Garmin via the Canbus socket?
I don't want to install it all and then suffer flat batteries.
