Email sent to Cooper BMW Sunderland.

"Please may I ask for the cost of some bespoke service items.

What is the hourly labour rate & is this based on an AW of 12.00 for each operation.

The service items I’m looking at are as follows, what is the time (AW) required & labour only cost for each job.

1100611 Oil change, engine, with filter.
1134502 Checking valve Clearance
2300510 Gearbox-oil change
1212509 Replace all spark plugs
1372505 Replace air filter cartridge
3400548 Changing brake fluid, front brakes
3400549 Changing brake fluid, rear brakes
1360502 Correcting engine synchronization

Can you confirm the quantity (ml) of brake fluid required when changing the F&R fluid.

Would the following be included as part of an oil & filter change.
Reading fault memory with BMW Motorrad diagnostic system.
Setting service-due date and service countdown distance.
Confirming BMW Service in on-board documentation.

Is a free visual health check still offered.

I look forward to your reply, thanks."

All the service items listed with separate codes have an associated cost, these are detailed on the invoice.

My objective is to maintain my bike in the most cost effective manner, whilst maintaining the T&C's of the Insured Warranty, hence the questions wrt oil filters etc.

I have now purchased all the lubricants & parts required for a 12,000 miles/annual service at half the cost of the equivalent items from BMW.

Will see what BMW come back with on labour costs & decide from there, what I'll do myself & what I'll pay them to do.

What is the hourly labour rate & is this based on an AW of 12.00 for each operation. Our labour rate is £87.25+Vat

The service items I’m looking at are as follows, what is the time (AW) required & labour only cost for each job.

1100611 Oil change, engine, with filter. 2AW £14.54
1134502 Checking valve Clearance 4AW £29.08
2300510 Gearbox-oil change 1AW £8.22
1212509 Replace all spark plugs 3AW £21.81
1372505 Replace air filter cartridge 1AW £8.22
3400548 Changing brake fluid, front brakes 5AW £36.35
3400549 Changing brake fluid, rear brakes 2AW £14.54
1360502 Correcting engine synchronization 8AW £58.17

Can you confirm the quantity (ml) of brake fluid required when changing the F&R fluid. No set amount for changing brake fluid – can vary

Would the following be included as part of an oil & filter change.
Reading fault memory with BMW Motorrad diagnostic system.
Setting service-due date and service countdown distance.
Confirming BMW Service in on-board documentation. Yes if you were to have Oil & Filter service the following would be reset

The hourly labour rate of £87.25 + VAT @ 20% is based on an AW of 12, therefore AW 12 = 60 mins & so for the jobs highlighted, the AW is a fraction of 12.

For example, 3400549 Changing brake fluid, rear brakes has an AW of 2 / 12 x £87.25 = £14.54.

With an hourly labour rate of £104.70, based on a 36.5 hour week, an income of £16,560.05 per month after tax would be required to pay that.

BMW Motorrad certainly go the "extra mile" & you get more than you pay for when having a service done.

Found a load of blue roll paper towel stuffed under the rider's seat around the rear brake fluid reservoir.

It's good kidology, makes you think they've changed the brake fluid.
