Pannier won't attach - HELP!

Post by richardbd »

Chaps,

My near-side pannier won't attach.  The handle simply won't click down into place.

I suspect something isn't happening when I locate the pannier on the mount - the lock isn't engaging or something.

Any ideas?

2014 LC - central locking.

Take it off the bike.

When you try and press the handle down, is the foot on the back of the case, locking up in position?

If it's not moving, or feels 'springy', I suspect the fault is inside the case. Of you're not sure, compare it to the other pannier,

You can have a look inside to see what's happening. It's not as bad as you think. Remove half of the hinge, and then remove all of the screws on the bottom half of the case. This will allow you to remove the plastic liner.

When this happened to me, the bottom clip inside had jumped out of position. I was able to refit it, and it's been fine ever since.

Having written all that, I now realise yours has central locking, which could be entirely different - I'm not sure.

Shouldn't it be covered by the warranty?

Can you lock it down when it's off the bike?

No - but I can't do that with the other one either and that works fine...

Not sure then.  Suggest you try the take apart solution but maybe a friendly call to your dealer before you do.

Not sure what you mean by "the foot at the back of the case" - as far as I can see, there is no foot at the back of either case but I may be misunderstanding you...

It does - but I don't think that's the issue...

Apologies Richard, I have a 2012 bike, which I believe could be different to yours.  Mine has an L shaped 'foot', that rises onto the frame when I lock the handle down.

I didn't realise there were still 2012 bikes left on the road!
