Ok, should have said its a nicer more throaty sound. And it barks more when you get on the throttle. Of course your assuming I have the baffles in  8)

"With provision to bolt the oxygen sensor in (no modifications of vehicle)."

If the cat. is removed, why would remapping be necessary when the oxygen sensors are retained.

When fitting an akrapovic exhaust, Revzilla suggest that,

"No fuel remapping required, but for optimal performance RevZilla recommends use of a fuel controller"

Revzilla seem quite good at selling things for the LC that are probably totally unnecessary.  Unless of course you're an add on fanatic then you need the lot

I would agree you don't need a remap for the Akra, but Akra don't seem to make headers for the LC, Remus do and the Remus rep said because it flows more and the LC is mapped lean, that a remap is required.

He would, he sells them and he is trying to say they will improve the bike, which they obviously don't.

Very interesting thread this and an example of BMW's penny "Penny Pinching Engineering". Who would have designed a mechanical component into an exhaust system without the means for that component to be removed for replacement / servicing (like on the Twincam). Unless of course the Beancounters have done the maths and deduced that there is money to be made when the Exhaust Wigit Flap fails outside the warranty period and a whole new Exhaust is required !!.

Don't think that is the case, the re-seller is not saying anything about performance improvement. All he is saying is if you change the headers and remove the cat then the exhaust will have different back pressure to the original, therefore it is advisable to have the bike mapped. They don't do remapping and if it was a selling tactic, then they would just say, stick it on and off you go! Most Harley owners will understand that their bikes come from the US with a very lean map. Most change the air filter and put on aftermarket exhausts. This requires a re-map, which is normally done via a Power Commander or Vance and Hines module through self learning or in some cases a dyno.


It is obvious that if a bike is mapped lean, that it can be improved as discussed in previous threads where guys have re-mapped without changing the headers. But if this flap doesn't impact my ride I am going to ignore it  8)

The exhaust valve on a TC costs less than £250, or it can be removed & replaced with a tube for around £30.

On an LC, it's part of the headers at over £1,000.

Haven't really got that far yet. But at £1300 for a BMW fix, or £650 for new headers and circa £350 for a re-map, would still be in pocket and have a better running bike. Other alternative leave it, which if no impact would be preferable, unless BMW cough up of course.

Just took the silencer off and the cap to the flap. Managed to free it off a bit, but not enough for it to move freely. Its rest position is fully open. So leaning towards just leaving it. Could even bosh it out if It was stuck semi open  8)  Might go for the Hilltop remap though, would be good to get an optimal map, have done that on all my other bikes. Still awaiting Mr BMW view on the flap being stuck after 6k and two months out of Manufacturers warranty LOL
