Anyone seen this before? - missing bolt on oil line

Post by mack62 »

I was giving the once over to my 2013 RT today as I am setting out on a long trip next Saturday.  I spotted this.  It appears that there should be a fastener on what I assume is an oil line from the sump. The hole on the oil line bracket and the frame don't appear to be perfectly aligned so I a suspecting it has been like this since the beginning.  No oil leaks or anything.  Has anyone else had this?

Looking at Real OEM under cooling looks like there should be an M6 X 12 in the hole, part no 06327651203.  Should cost about 50p

Thanks RTman.  I hadn't seen that site before.  Very comprehensive.

The missing item as RTman10 says is an M6 Torx Screw (flanged). The hole in the bracket does have a fair amount of clearance and from the position shown in your picture down to the pipe lower union it's a fair run so there should be some slight "flex" to allow the missing screw to be fitted. If the screw has been previously fitted there will be "witness" marks on the bracket lug.

Interesting....wouldn't a visit to the dealer be advisable regardless of whether the missing bolt has come out or never been fitted?? I find my local dealer very receptive on remedial action over this type of scenario, and given the M6 Torx headed bolt required, they should carry those bolts in stock in their workshop.

My nearest dealer is over an hour a way and they are not open late hours otherwise I would take it there.  It looks like there might have been a screw in there before.  I have ordered a replacement online and I will see how much I have to push the pipe to get it fitted.  I hate touching anything before a long trip but seems sensible to try and fasten it.  Thanks everyone for the input.  :)

Well, over one hour away to the dealer is a small price to pay to get this looked and fixed by their workshop. Besides, it would be beneficial to you to understand what's going on re the missing bolt etc.....wouldn't it?? ???

So I replaced this bolt before my trip and after 3500 km all is well.  Motorworks was able to find me the part and send it to me.

Be interested to know what Motorworks charged you for the bolt.

I think it was 50p for the screw and 3.50£ for the shipping.  They apologised about the shipping cost.  I have found them to be helpful every time I call them.  Did a lot of my own work on my old 1150RT so used them quite a bit.

I've got the exact same bike. I've just been out to the garage to check - the bolt's there, and it's tight. Thanks for the heads up. ;)

If that bolt you got is new you have probably paid postage from dealer to them and then to you.

If they exceeded 25mm the maximum size for thickness of a large letter then it would fall under Small Parcels and the min price is £3.35 for 1st so maybe not that far off if he was charged £3.50  ;)
