Updated 2017 K1600GT

Post by elephant8869 »

Have you seen the updated 2017 model K1600GT. Restyling looks good and equipment now matches the current R1200RT, with gear shift pro, active suspension and a few other goodies but it's a shame the bike wasn't put on a serious diet. Still 319kg.. Think I'll stick with my RTImageImage

Looks really nice. I will maybe have to test ride one. Not much heavier than the FJR and certainly not as heavy as my old Harley. Just read on another forum, it comes with reverse  8)

If that's right about reverse that's a Great Leap Forward .  By the time I got my GTL out of the garage I felt knackered for the rest of the day.  Still not the weather protection of the RT though.

As half of people cant seem to make it work going forward I doubt it.  I remember once borrowing a K1200LT which had reverse.
Very  strange.  Its odd that one of the reasons for not fitting it to start with was it would have added more weight.  But that has changed the same.

I made the switch last year from a 1600gt to a RT, 200 pounds lighter, easier handling in my garage and overall a more nimble bike, and I haven't looked back

It does have an electric reverse gear which uses the starter motor in combination with pressing a button on the left hand bar. Will definitely test ride one :-))

Same system as the old K1200LT then.  There will be a switch/knob somewhere to engage it all. And they already suffer with starter motor clutch problems now and again.

You would hope on a new model Mr BMW will have updated so there are no issues. Would like to test ride one. You also said the weather protection isn't as good as a RT, is that based on the current bike, as I haven't found any rider reviews yet

Except for a bit of trim on the side panel the new one looks exactly the same.  Owned a GTL for over 3 years.  Weather protection for your hands is zero and you are further away from the screen which doesn't help .  GT is the same bike with a higher seat different bars and pegs and no top box and a smaller screen.  Magic engine though.

Had a test ride of the current GT before I bought the RT. It was terrible weather, but can't say I noticed much difference in rain protection. I did notice the screen on the K seemed to work slightly better. I have now changed the screen on my RT to the Werks one, so the jury is still out, but it does seem to work better.

There's a difference.  More so on the hand protection than the screen.

Why do BMW insist on analogue Speedos. Looks like a KPH speedo in picture, where is MPH ?
