2017 RT availability?

Post by jbbli »

Has anyone in the US been able to place an order for a 2017 RT? I'm looking for information on when I might be able to order (and to receive!) the newly announced version.

I would have thought that any ordered now would be the 2017 model as I seem to remember production changed in August.

I would have thought so as well. But dealers in my area (Pacific Northwest in US) are still waiting to hear about pricing and ordering, or so I am told. I hear two things from unproven sources: 1) Factory making other models of bikes right now, no fixed schedule for first (or next) RT production runs, and 2) Large inventory of unsold 2016 bikes in US warehouses which BMW hope to deplete prior to putting 2017's into the dealer pipeline.

I suppose this will eventually create an opportunity for significant purchase incentives for the 2016's, but as I posted in another thread, I'm trying to decide on 2017 with its new features and improvements versus 2016 with its savings (and still a damn fine bike by all accounts).

That is odd because I was able to order my 2016 back on October 11th of last year (delivered just after the first of the year).  The BMW Motorrad web site, however, still does not have the 2017 model information available.  I will say that there were basically no 2015's around (within a reasonable distance anyway) when I placed the order though.  The dealer did have about three new 2016's by then but of course they weren't configured the way I wanted mine  :)

Had my 2017 RT for two weeks and what a difference to my 2014 model!
Decided to go for the Alpine White colour and had the top box sprayed white to match.
My wife was not keen on the Quartz Blue colour so "forced" me to buy a new bike!

I can honestly say the gear box is far superior, with NO clunk especially into first gear.
The bike also seems so smooth compared to my other bike, getting used to the keyless ignition, haven't used the hill start pro yet.

All in all very happy with the decision to go for the 2017 LE be

Some are saying they think the 2017 is down on power and has flat spots compared to 2014 - 2016 bikes. But I guess you haven't found any noticeable difference.

Kokoman,

What country did you get your bike from?

From England.
CW motorcycles in Dorchester, Dorset. Excellent service, as always.
Would fully recommend them for both sales and service, well worth travelling (as long as you are this side of the pond!).

Decision made. Deal too good to pass on 2016 with all the bells and whistles. 2-3 weeks until bike arrives and 800GT passes on to someone else.
