Bought it yesterday.  2011 TC se with a few extra gizzits.  4950 miles and like new  2 years warranty for £8490

I sometime wonder why anyone would buy a bike to travel less than a 1000 miles per year on it??    Must have more money than sense.

Or lots of bikes. I'm sure you are aware of the service schedule so in theory it should have had at least 5 annual services  but as it's nearly at 6 k if it was mine it would get a full 12K one just to get everything renewed. Or maybe it already has.

With a 2 year warranty, was the bike purchased from a BMW dealer, as an approved used bike with a FBMWSH.

Apparently the previous owners wife was gutted to see it go but with kids it was not being used.


Immaculate condition...as new, I would be surprised if it has seen rain.

As a BMW approved used bike, it should have a FBMWSH.

With less than 6,000 miles on the clock, the valve clearances & engine synchronisation may not even have been done for the first time.

Can't see the point in changing other mileage related items e.g. spark plugs or air filter due at 12,000 miles, or alternator belt due at 24,000 miles (or six years) prematurely.

To maintain the 2 year warranty, the BMW system should flag up what's due & when.

Sounds like a great deal. My TC was a cracker of a bike. Bmw should service it if it's within a 1000 miles of its next service. Looks like yours is 50 miles over this limit, so try to haggle the 6k service into the deal as well. Barnstormers are pretty good people to deal with.

If the valve clearances haven't yet been done, (due for the first time at 6,000 miles),  it would seem reasonable to ask the question about the service.

Dealers should always show a next service mileage as 6000 miles on from the mileage a bike has done when serviced along with a date 12 months on.  Anything less and they are cheating or very ill informed.

Prior to my ownership, my TC RT had last been serviced on 25/04/2014 at 2,029 miles,
therefore, the next service would be due on either 25/04/2015 (12 months) or 8,029 miles (+ 6,000 miles).

In this case, the valve clearances hadn't been done at 2,029 miles, therefore, they wouldn't get done when required at 6,000 miles.

After the Running-in Check at 545 miles, the dealer put the next service due at 6,000 miles.

Likewise, after the first annual service at 1,646 miles, the next service was due at 6,000 miles.

In both cases, this recognises that there are service items due at 6,000 miles.

He was not following the BMW service schedule.  Using his logic you'd could forever be going in for odd items to be done.

So, Allan Jefferies don't know what there are doing & neither do Cooper Sunderland.

Took my RT to Cooper's with 3,160 miles on the clock, they put the next service due at 9,160 (+ 6,000 miles).

The valve clearances were done by myself for the first time at 6,860 miles.

BMW's tolerance from a warranty point of view is 12 + 1 = 13 months or 6,000 + 1,000 = 7,000 miles between services.

My service light recently came on at 10500 miles and indicating yearly service due in a month( Previous service done at 6500 miles ). Did not want a service done at this mileage and then more work at 12000 miles for valve service. Rang two  BMW dealerships and both said same thing, i.e. put a few more miles on getting it near to 11000 miles and then the annual service and 12000 mile  valve check service will be combined. Sometimes Dealers are sensible and think of the customer. :o
