In dry conditions and just traveling I am usually in "Road". Wet, or slow traffic where the first and second gear operation is a bit jerky in road I use "Rain". Dynamic when hustling the bike. Yes, you can really feel the difference in response between the 3 settings. Buy you might be surprised at how close you are to really sliding the bike in dynamic. My Son follows me and says he can tell when I switch to Dynamic and push the bike hard. Says you can smell the hot rubber smell from the tires! I can too when I get off the bike. I think we should than BMW for this system, it makes better riders of us.

It was one of the first things I noticed when the sales guy was showing me over the bike - change to Rain or Dynamic and the ESA stays in Normal. He said it doesn't work that way on the RT (presumably he meant the new 2017 RT I guess if it works that way on older ones).

send it back - it's broken...

Okay, so it looks like the sales guy at my dealership is a bit of a numpty (I know for a fact they sell far more GS' than they do RT').

So we were going through the options on the bike menus and he set it to Rain (it was raining outside). I immediately noticed that the suspension stayed in Normal (as it's shown on the display all the time it' pretty obvious) and remarked about how on the GS the suspension changes with riding mode. "Oh the RT doesn't do that," he tells me. Well it does, I have just been outside and checked and it changes with the modes exactly as described. The only thing I can assume is that because we had just been in the menu system manually changing the ESA setting and had then reverted it back to Normal that the bike had applied some sort of over-ride due to the manual intervention immediately beforehand and so not changed the ESA setting along with the ride mode.

So sorry for any confusion caused - and I'm glad this came up as otherwise I would have continued to labour under a misapprehension (at least until the next time I use one of the modes I guess). Speaking personally I would rather have the option to control it myself but I guess I'm used to it working that way so no big deal.

Make a point of pointing out his mistake .  Might stop him confusing others.

He's already going to get it in the ear from me a bit on Monday anyway. Not impressed that I spent a small fortune on the audio system and he omitted to mention that it won't talk to my iPod or iPhone without a custom BMW cable. >:( But he did me a pretty good deal on the bike so I won't be giving him too much of a hard time.

System works great for music if you just insert a card into cable already there.  Load only MP3 format.

Dynamic/Normal most of the time...  Have switched to Dynamic/Hard on some smoother roads when pushing on quicker...  Peter

Pagers.  Did I read somewhere that the same cable can be had from BMW Mini for a fraction of the Motorrad price.

Already got a USB stick installed there with a few albums - but 90% of my music is in iTunes format and I really don't have the patience to convert it all to MP3.

I also read about the Mini cable and have ordered one. My annoyance was more that the dealer didn't mention that the iPod integration - which was a big selling point and the whole reason why I ordered the optional audio system - doesn't work 'out of the box'. But to be honest, if that's the only gripe I have about the bike, then I have nothing to worry about.

I will now stop hijacking the thread and let people continue commenting on their use of the riding modes!
