Main display change to speedo?

Post by PatriotBMW »

2014 RT - I've read the manual, and changed user background to speedo- but it still only shows the current radio song.  How do I change the master screen setting so it shows the speedo?  If I mess with the wheel it only changes volume up/down, or previous/next track.  Advice appreciated!

You can have either the digital speedo or the audio unit showing but not both at the same time It's been like that since 2012 when it first appeared on the 1600.

And by the way, to turn the radio off you have to hold the power button (on the side fairing) . If you just press it once it mutes it, but doesn't turn it off.

That was one of my minor gripes when I got my RT - the fact that if I have the audio system on it 'takes over' the central screen. But once I knew there was nothing I could do about it I soon got over it.

My Nav V shows my current speed and I'm used to looking at that from the GS anyway so I am not finding it a big deal.

I like the digital speedo, but that is no more accurate than the analogue one. The only accurate speed is displayed on the Nav V or whatever GPS you are using. Think most speedos over read.

One of the advantages of not having the audio unit.  Digital  Speedo and music at the same time via the Nav.

Vehicle speedometers will always over-read slightly. That's because if they under-read then the manufacturer would be liable for people breaking the law. So they play it on the safe side (who can blame them). My RT under-reads by around 2 mph, compared with my 5-series which is by 3 mph. What I find interesting is that it is consistent across the speed range. Which means that BMW are most likely reading the speed correctly then adding the small modifier to keep themselves comfortably within the law.

That's all very well - but how do you listen to Steve Wright in the Afternoon?
