I would expect the settings memory to be in 'persistent memory' like say when you remove the battery from your phone you don't lose everything. It is likely that the loss of heat settings is deliberate.

You do even the clock which normally results in your service light appearing.  Reset the clock and that goes away so it keeps some things.
