Buying Advice

I'm currently looking at purchasing a 2000 1100rt with 60,000 miles. Just wondering if the community can give their opinions on potential problems I may run in to or just their general impressions. The bike is said to be in excellent condition (for a 60,000 mile bike). I know this is a 1200rt site but I've noticed that many of you have had the 1100. Thanks in advance for the input.

It's all down to condition but they are quite hardy.  Panel bolts can rot as can the exhausts.  Some around that age had fully linked brakes, I can't quite remember the year but if it has I should avoid.  Both the front and the back were linked  fully together so you got full braking when you touched the pedal.  I found them violent .

If the engine surges at constant throttle, this can fixed by a good tune-up from an independent specialist. The bike is 17 years old and the ABS pump can go (mine went), but are available from breakers at a modest cost. A genuine new replacement from BMW not not be economic.
The standard brakes on the 1100 were: lever operates front and rear, pedal operates rear only. I've never heard of an 1100 having the fully-linked brakes of the 1150, but I'm sure RTman10 knows best. If there were any, I suppose it would be in the 2000/01 model year.

Now there's a thing.  I saw 2000 and I'm sure my 1150 with the crazy brakes was 2000,  Easy to check 1100 had a near square headlight. And of course the badge.
But yes normal brakes on the 1100 and no 6th gear.
