That's a strange one - at what point during the pre start check are you hearing this squeak ?

It's probably jut the fuel pump priming.

Yes, I've heard this too! :)

I think it's the exhaust flap cycling open/closed/open. The noise went away when I stripped and lubricated the cable pulley and spring assembly.  ???

normally cured by the in-built design trick of having the exhaust flap seize.  Then easily cured by the simple (£1,300) replacement of the entire exhaust system (minus the end can of course, BMW aren't that daft...)

:alas:

The exhaust flap on a 2010 RT is £258.17, http://www.rainbowbmw.com/BMWETK/Produc ... 802474.php.

Thanks for the advise.  It seams to squeak almost immediately, ie while the red light is still on.

I have often wondered if it is wise to lubricate the Flap pivot points bearing in mind that this area is subjected to a lot of heat. I admit to giving it the odd squirt of W.D. 40 now and again but I'm now wondering if it's best left dry. Any opinions ?.
