Matlock Meet - June 2017 (Cancelled)

Post by David. »

Is there any interest in a meet/ride out from Matlock in June.

I'd be happy to book a couple of nights at the Matlock Premier Inn, leaving a full day for a tour of the Peak District.

I'd be happy to sign up for that. Can help with a route if required.

Hi Chris, it would be good to have a local tour guide, if you are happy to do so, what date(s) are best for you.

Any date in June is OK for me at the present time. No major events are planned locally in June that could interfere and cause traffic issues other than possibly 7-11 for Chatsworth Flower Show.
A blend of 'nice' riding roads (away from the usual 'safety cameras') and the best of the scenery (of which there is a lot on offer, weather permitting) would be the order of the day.

Would folks prefer this meet to be midweek or a weekend.

With those who have responded so far with dates to avoid, plus myself now not available for one weekend, may I suggest the following.

If it's a weekend, how about the first (3rd/4th) or last (24th/25th) in June.

If it's midweek, the last week 26th - 30th would be good.

Should it be a weekend, then how about aiming for the first, with the last being a backstop if the weather thwarts us.

The early weekend sounds a good plan but like everywhere, the hotspots can get busy on a sunny Sunday. However, the hotspots can be avoided.

Would be good to pin down which day (Sat. or Sun.) for the ride out.

I'm 2 hours away from Matlock, depending on the day's ride start & finish times, I may book in at the Premier Inn for a night or two.

Like most other places, I would think, the nutters on their 'crotch rockets' tend to be out in force on Sundays which encourages increased Police scrutiny. My vote would be for Saturday but understand that some unlucky people may be burdened by work commitments. In addition, some may wish to stay over and do something on the Sunday or increase the chance of decent weather.

If you would like to be our local guide, then perhaps it should be Saturday 3rd June, I'd vote for that too.
Aiming for Saturday would leave Sunday as a backstop if the weather isn't great on Saturday.

What time were you thinking of setting off from Matlock and for how long.

For Saturday 3rd June, the Premier Inn at Matlock is £90 for the flexible rate, http://www.premierinn.com/gb/en/home.html

I would be thinking 120 miles or so which would be mostly steady scenic roads taking in as many of the 'views' as possible. That equates to maybe 4 to 4.5 hours relaxed riding and with minimum three decent stops, that's looking like a 6 to 6.5 hour day.
Flexible on start time as Matlock is local for me.
The above is only a suggestion and would be happy to produce a route which suits requirements.
