Alternative 'Northern Monkeys' June Meet 2017

Post by k9doc »

As mentioned by David over in the other thread, two Peak District based events back to back seems a little OTT so it has been decided to cancel/postpone the June Matlock based event.
An alternative has been suggested for a one day event of approx. 3 hours riding time, starting and finishing in Morrison's Car Park Wetherby. This opens up opportunities for the Dales, NYM or Yorkshire Wolds. I have been asked to coordinate this event (Sat or Sun to be decided) and am happy so to do, but if any of you Yorkies with local knowledge would care to show off your wonderful county, then please step up in the next week or so. Suggestions and preferences would also be welcome.

Makes sense going for the early one as if blown out for any reason, then we have options to reschedule.
Might have to take issue with your best county comment.

Chris (k9doc) and I have both come up with a ride in the Yorkshire Wolds, that's two ideas, any other offerings.

It's more your area than mine so I'm happy to follow wherever you two decide upon? Nice Chippy in Wetwang if we happen to be passing  :)

Both the offerings so far pass closely to Wetwang, I'm sure a slight deviation could be taken.

The chippy might swing it the Yorkshire Wolds way.

Wetwang Chippy is only 6 minutes along the B1248 from Bainton which has a nice tea room at Wolds Village, https://www.woldsvillage.co.uk/

(Both of the suggested routes so far pass through Bainton.)

How about this route as an offering, I know Chris (k9doc) has an idea too, others thoughts would be more than welcome.

We could "mix & match" any routes as we did in the Peak District, nothing is set in stone, it's everyone's day out.

This is my effort, similar to David's in part but a little further North and going over the top of the Wolds. Similar comfort stops though.

Can be shortened a little if necessary.

I would be more than happy to follow Chris (k9doc),  (or anyone else for that matter),  he led us on a great route around the Peak District last time out.

Was recently shown/ridden the route between Sherburn in Elmet (Squires) and Fridaythorpe (Seaways Café),  it was certainly interesting on some minor (white) roads which were new to me and less likely to be policed than the A or B roads.

BaseCamp comes up with a total distance of 118.6 miles in a riding time of 3 h, 34 min.

Wetwang (chippy) for lunch, with a break in the afternoon at Howden. Could look for a morning break before lunch if necessary.

Found a P&T stop in Elvington at Rebecca's Kitchen, open until midday, about an hour from Wetherby.

I was thinking 2,stops.

Seaways Café Fridaythorpe          50 miles  1hr 17 mins riding from Wetherby (Wetwang chippy about 3 miles further on)

Bainton Tea Rooms                      59 miles  1hr 20 mins riding from Fridaythorpe

leaving 41 miles and 1 hr riding back to Wetherby then a further hour home.

Seems to work quite well.

With 2 stops, my offering would look like this.

Wetherby to Wetwang, 51 miles, 1hr 38 mins, if necessary, a quick P&T, more like P in my case, could be taken at Elvington in 31 miles after 1hr.

Wetwang to Howden, 33 miles, 53 mins.

Howden to Wetherby, 35 miles, 1 hr 4 mins.

As Seaways Café/Wetwang is a common stop, perhaps we could "mix & match" the routes depending on what folks would like to do.
