Service schedule for a 2012 RT

The service history of my recently acquired bike is a bit of a grey area. The first two service were completed by an authorised BMW dealership up until 1184 miles in March 15. I then have an independent (www.RGM-uk.com) completing an interim service in Aug 15 with a detailed itemised work sheet at 7566 miles. In Aug 16 with 11100 miles on the clock it gets a PDI type services from an independent dealer but only the oil & filter is marked as changed. Finally the chap I brought the bike from got his local garage to do a service a couple of months ago at 11500 miles. They stamped the service book and wrote 'checked previous service at 11100 all ok changed oil and filer anyway'. Apparently they also checked the axel oil and air filter but there is no proof of this.

Just looking over bike I see that the engine oil looks clean and there is a new oil filter fitted, brake fluid also looks clean but the only actual evidence of it being replaced was back in Aug 15 by the BMW dealership. The clutch fluid looks alarmingly dark though. So I'm interested to learn what should be done to bring things up to date. Does the twin cam have any specific differnces in the service schedule compared with the earlier single cam bikes?

As you have it's handbook that details its service schedule.  If it was mine I would book it in to an authorised dealer to get it back up to what should be done for its mileage. The alternative might be hope everything keeps going even though it's not been serviced fully.

This is the 12,000 miles/Annual service schedule, https://www.ascycles.com/pdf/ServiceSch ... ervice.pdf

Assuming the bike is 5 years old & has done nearly 12,000 miles, from what has been claimed to be completed, I'd look at the following.

Looks like the oil & filter have been changed, therefore that's good to go for 6,000 miles or 12 months.

The brake fluid is due after 1 year (2013),  then every 2 years (2015 & 2017),  if it looks clean it may have been done recently.

The clutch fluid is a mineral oil, doesn't get changed.

The final drive (axle oil) is due every 2 years or 12,000 miles, does checked me it's been changed.

The air filter is due every 12,000 miles, does checked mean it was changed.

The valve clearances are due every 6,000 miles, have they been done.

The spark plugs are changed every 12,000 miles, are they new.

The gearbox oil is changed as per the brake fluid or every 24,000 miles, therefore due in 2017.

Thanks for the feedback, certainly sounds like there are some gaps and as the milage is coming up to 12k I'm going to book the bike in and get everything done minus the oil & filter. I think that's the only way to be sure and give me peace of mind.

The engine synchronisation (throttle bodies) need balancing every 6,000 miles too.

All the other checks are visual.

Are you going to use a BMW Dealer or an Independent Specialist.

I have an excellent local garage Motoscot (http://www.motoscot.co.uk/) owned & run by an experienced senior ex BMW / Honda  technician. Did a great job on my old 2006 bike so will likely go back there. I've sent him as transcript of my earlier post, just waiting to hear back.

Out of interest, are they VAT registered, therefore able to uphold the T&C's of a BMW warranty.

That's a bonus, unfortunately my two local independent specialists aren't, therefore I'm stuck with using the BMW stealers.

Sounds perfect, how do the costs compare to that of a BMW main dealer.
