Gear shift assist pro FAULT

Had the bike in to the dealer yesterday for a service tyres and to get the gear shift assist pro looked at as i was not working again? after i assume resetting the software the bike went back to the workshop??? i was then told the gear shift assist unit was broken £300 sir WHAT!!!????. After explaining that it was the second time in 5000 mls it was not working the dealer contacted BMW and to my great delight i was told bmw would cover the cost of the part i just had to pay labour i am wondering if this should be a recall? any one had the same issue.
