'Northern Monkeys' Peak District July 15th

Change of plan for this coming Saturday due to David's incapacity.

I'm happy to take a ride around the less well travelled parts of the Peak District. The distance will be around 130 miles, 4 hours riding time with 3 decent stops.
Meet at Castleton Car Park 1000 for a 1015 depart. The ride will finish on the A616 at Langsett after a ride across the superbly resurfaced Strines.
Three on board so far, michaelc of this Parish, one of my regular riding buddies (Mick) and yours truly.
Knee sliders will not be necessary for this ride as it is based around what the Peak District is famous for although it's possible on certain stretches to 'get a dab on'.

Maybe up for this one. Looking at google maps will take me approx. 2 hours to get there coming through Sheffield on a weekend to start point. :-\

Be good to have you on board. I would have thought M1 J34, A6102 skirting Sheffield, A61 briefly then B6056 for Dronfield Woodhouse would be your best way in. Should be a doddle early Saturday am. Easy access to the M1 for return home.
Forecast still ok, cloudy but only 10% chance of rain.

I'm definitely up for this (start point is closer for me than Wetherby).

For anyone not familiar with Castleton, pre ride sustenance can be obtained from a nice little café facing on your right as you leave the car park, toilets available in the car park, but best arrive with a fullish tank.

Route available on request via email.

Forecast, cloudy with 10% chance of showers.

Forecast overcast but still only 10% chance of rain.

Final weather call 0700-0730 tomorrow morning when a show of hands would be helpful. Thanks.

Forecast is now deteriorating with rain, cloud and fog forecast for tomorrow am, getting better in the afternoon. We need really good weather and visibility for this ride as it is all about the views and some rather 'technical' narrowish roads. With this in mind, if the forecast hasn't improved by teatime (1800), the ride will be called off to await  better conditions. I feel this a preferable option to waiting until morning as it allows alternative plans to be made.

I think that's a sensible move. Having just watched the weather forecast I was just about to post suggesting pretty much the same. I don't mind a bit of rain, but you really need decent weather if you are doing a day-long ride, especially in that scenery.

Rain or drizzle upto 1500 then mist. Exactly what we don't need for the Peak District especially as we would be mostly on the higher ground. Can't see the forecast changing much so will call it now.

This ride is cancelled.

Would have tried for Sunday but prior commitments preclude this week end.

Can look for a later date if there is interest.

Sorry chaps.

Disappointing, but the right decision. There will be another day.
