2018 Annual RT Meet

Post by David. »

For the 2018 annual RT meet, may I suggest a date of Saturday 7th July.

Was thinking of being based near Leicester & riding "The Rutland TT".

If anyone else has any other thoughts or ideas on dates, locations & where to ride, please fire away.

Sounds good to me. Lovely part of the world, with some great scenery.

After the success of the 2017 meeting, I'd be more than happy to join in.

If we're gracious enough to allow GS's to join us, Tim The Plumber would come along. We can always put him at the back again!!

Tim on his GS did a great job as TEC for the day in Tewkesbury, he'd be more than welcome to join us again.

If we decide to go to Rutland, I'd like to suggest that the Premier Inn, Leicester South (Oadby) would be an ideal location to stay, plus Goodwin's Restaurant & Bar next door.

The hotel only has 30 rooms, therefore early booking may be advisable. Rooms have not yet been released online but can be booked directly with the hotel by calling 01165 278600, (the online rate is likely to be cheaper). Booking the no deposit "Flex" rate & opting to pay on arrival allows free cancellation up to 1pm on the day of travel.

I'll keep checking in on the PI site and book online when the rooms are released.

Please remember, nothing is set in stone & should anyone else wish to offer an alternative location & ride out, that's fine with me.

The idea of riding "The Rutland TT" has been taken from the Bikers' Britain guide book and looks very similar to this MotoGoLoco route,

(A loop around Rutland Water has been included.)

To make more of a day of it, have added a ride south of Market Harborough to Brampton Halt, taking in Pitsford Reservoir.

As plotted on BaseCamp, the day's ride would look something like this.

Oadby to Brampton Halt, 33 miles in 1 hour, stopping at https://www.thebramptonhalt.co.uk/

Brampton Halt to the OK Diner (just north of Stamford on the A1),  62 miles in 1.5 hours, https://okdiners.com/tickencote/, with a break at Uppingham.

OK Diner to Oadby, 64 miles in 1 hour 40 miuntes, with a break at the A1 Stadium Diner, https://www.tripadvisor.co.uk/Restauran ... gland.html, at Colsterworth on the A1 south of Grantham.

A total of 159 miles in 4 hours 10 minutes with 4 breaks, similar to what we did in Tewkesbury which filled the day.

Have just booked online the Premier Inn, Leicester South (Oadby),  for Friday 6th & Saturday 7th July 2018.

For some reason, can't yet just book Saturday 7th only online. If you wish to secure your room for Saturday only, this can be done by phone, calling 01165 278600 and costs a whole £3 more than online.

Don't forget, the PI only has 30 rooms, book early to avoid disappointment.

Will you be staying at the PI Oadby or riding in & out on the day.

I did consider the PI at Melton Mowbray but decided against it after looking & speaking to them about the parking arrangements, plus the lack of facilities on site.
