2012 TC RT - Brake Fluid Costs

Post by David. »

The front & rear brake fluid on my 2012 TC will require changing this year 2017, (due after year one then every two years.)

In year 1 (2013),  the quantity of brake fluid charged for was 500ml, part no. 83130443024 @ £6.70.

In year 3 (2015),  the quantity of brake fluid charged for was 1000ml, part no. 83130443026 @ £11.93.

Will be interesting to see what quantity is charged for in year 5 (2017).

250ml of brake fluid, part no. 8313044302 is available for £3.92.

Why should one dealer charge for 500ml & another 1000ml for the same job.
(I would have thought that 500ml is more than sufficient.)

Perhaps it's just another way of making money, hoping the customer won't notice.

How about this for a deal, purchased some new rear brake calliper seals at a cost of £20 from my local BMW dealer.

A very nice man in the parts dept. gave me a 1 litre bottle of brake fluid for free.

Had I purchased the brake fluid from Amazon, it would have cost £20 inc. delivery, https://www.amazon.co.uk/Genuine-Mini-B ... 8GCQTWFEPB

It gets better, as the seals were not in stock & had to be ordered, they agreed to post them FOC.

David
Look up speed bleeders, 3 for your bike, all different sizes i’am afraid, those and a quart of quality DOT4 brake fluid and your in business. Fluid flushes should take less than 30 minutes
Just be sure to keep brake fluid off the paint

After helping a friend to bleed the front brakes on his TC RT, I inherited a Vizibleed tool, it worked well.
