Your dealer was right. However, where there is a will, there is a way! I like that saying! I sure regretted getting my self into this at first.
I sure thought I can remove the rubber and save the throttle sleeve and wheel. That is where the only problem is. Left is fine, bars are 22 mm.
so any 7/8 grip will work. But now I have all sorted out. I can use any grip that fits a 1" sleeve. No, they are not heated. I don't care for that. That is where the heated gloves are used! You need the heat on the outside, not at your palm. Is just me, so if anyone doesn't agree, so be it!
Here is a pick with the two grips, old and new.

Have a 1" sleeve for throttle, and the bars are 22 mill. Most rubber grips come with 7/8 left and 1" right.
Mission accomplished! :kacsint2:

Do you have a picture of the finished article?

Am still working on the handle bars, so I don't have them installed.
Here is a picture with the throttle modified. Has a 7/8 ID, 1" OD and 5 1/4
long aluminum sleeve with the wheel that rolls up the throttle cables.

Me too! Also stopped the tingling in my fingers.

When posted this thread thought will get some help on what to expect if I will try to do this mod, on several sites. Barely had a sympathizer or two, that agreed with what and why I want to do this. Most I had was comments as why give up heated grips and why change OEM BMW look! I didn't post it as "would it be OK to give up the heated grips?" or "should I pay big bucks for a new set crapy looking OEM grips?"
Anyways, if anyone wants to do it, I can say that yes, it is do able! Here is a pic. Also lowered the handle bars an inch,(didn't dare ask about that!!) so can hardly wait to take it for a spin, but is full blown winter here .

Thank You! As for the mirrors, are not after market, are original GS , not sure what year. Labeled Mickey Mouse ears, bought them
on eBay from a 08RT owner that warned me they do not fit! They fit just fine, all had to do was modifie some elongated nuts to fit!
If you are looking for a set of mirrors, I would suggest https://www.ebay.com/itm/2pcs-Black-Uni ... 2749.l2649
Just ordered a set, I like the look and shape, and for $10 can't go wrong. Will they fit? They will for me:kacsint2:
I can't say that it will work for you as your model/year bike!
