2012 R1200RT won’t start. Neutral wire? Terminal 15 - 0.00v

I have a 2012 R1200RTP I recently bought and it wont start. Screen lights up fine.

Hooking it up to a friends ICOM it shows that there’s no voltage on Terminal 15, also called KL 15. See screenshot.

ICOM shows all OK on sensors for starter button, clutch, neutral sensor and side stand.

Seems little voltage is getting to the fuel pump. Have tried already to bypass the FPC. Makes no difference except for that the fuel pump runs.

No voltage to starter or fuel pump, but they work fine if I apply 12v directly.

Digging a bit deeper I think it might be a loose ground wire, but I have no idea where the ground wires are.

I hope someone can point me in the right direction.

Do you get lights etc?  Is there anything on your box of tricks that checks out if the kill switch may have a fault?

Yes, I do get lights, horn etc. With ISTA / ICOM all the usual suspects (starter switch, clutch, gear sensor, side stand, EWS) check out OK.

KL 15 in BMW terminology = ignition is in the on/run position and all accessories are ready. Like you say, if all the cut off switches ie, kill, starter, side stand are showing fine? I'd be looking for a break in the wiring or a bad ground. Hope you get it sorted 👍

Hi, might not be the same problem mine had and the solution was simple when isolated. Everything lit up on mine properly just refused to start. The AA guy hot wired the starter and it fired up fine. It came down to the start/kill switch fault.  I dismantled the switch took the plastic outer off, used the buttons on the sealed unit and it fired up fine. The plastic outer wasn't alowing the rocker to close the connection on the sealed switch. New switch, £120.
As I said might not be the same problem but see if it works. Usually the simple things we miss.

Side stand kill switch.  But more likely the kill switch.  It was a known fault back in 2012 and was replaced FOC if it failed for some time but not now.

Its was the ECU which somehow blocked the bike from starting. Got a second hand ECU+key kit from eBay and now the starter motor works but the bike still won’t start. Here’s a YouTube video with the sound. Let me know if anyone has any suggestions.

Solved it! Problem now was the battery which through all of the experimenting lost some of its power. New battery and everything is great again.

Where is the ECU on this vintage bike?  I am looking to get mine remapped and need to find it first.
