Stationary Fall Over

Post by horand »

Hi

Had a stationary tip over the other day. Only damage is to the cylinder head paint. Whilst its cosmetic I would like to get it properly painted. Given that the head will heat is there a certain/recommended heat resistant paint that I should check out.
I have now fitted cylinder head guards.
Thanks

They are actually the cam covers not the cylinder heads so they won't get as hot as you might think

Many thanks for your correction I'm not engine/technically orientated!

Can anyone advise on the paint? My covers are silver and not graphite grey.

Many Thanks

Oooh unlucky!  We've all been there:  That 'I've got this, I've got this, I've...… bugger' moment.

One other thing you may consider:  Nip into Halfrauds (other car accessory shops are available) and buy some of their car bumper protectors (http://www.halfords.com/motoring/car-ac ... ctor-370mm).  Stick these along the lower edge of your panniers where they would hit the ground when the bike tips.  They look like they have been there forever.  You can get cheaper ones too.

Hi Sprintgull

Sounds like a good idea. I have  guards now fitted. See photo attached. If the bumped strip can fit underneath the guard I might go ahead with this suggestion. Alternatively I will have the cover painted and the guard refitted.

Many Thanks for your input.

The bump strips are for the panniers.  They covered up the marks where I dropped mine :)  Unless you are really unlucky and it goes right over, the bike sits on the head and pannier.

Machine art moto makes some really nifty heavy/plastic cylinder guards, i’ve Suffered the same fate with a zero speed get off, along with the BMW pannier guards, zero damage to bike, ego not so much though!

Hi Jim
These guards are spot on and cover most the the area of the Cam cover.
Although expensive I have now ordered them from Nippy Norman’s.
What type of pannier protection have you got and where did you get it from?
Thanks

Pannier guards are from Bmw, have your dealer check on these, they are the same for both the RTLC and the 1600. If I remember correctly about $200 US for the set of 4

Yeah Jim
I have found the pannier guards on the BMW website.
Two plastic strips that are self adhesive and you have to buy the left and right separately.
Many Thanks

Jim
This is what I will opt for to protect the panniers.

Should be good enough. I'll order black so that if they take a drop I can paint them!

Thanks for your input.

Afternoon All,

Had a PM asking where the rubber bumper protectors were applied to the panniers.  Pictures attached.  They work really well because since I stuck them on I haven't dropped it :)
