2014-2015 R1200RT's With Low Miles

Post by Cohiba54 »

I'm selling off a couple of bike and looking to buy an RT. I've found a few R1200RT's with surprisingly low miles, never understood buying a bike and not riding it. Anyways in my book let a machine set and your passably in for oil leaks, bad seals and bad rubber on the groung and so on. So with all that being said. What in particular should I be on the lookout for on these bikes when i recon them? Electrical? Computer? Or am I just being a puss about it?

As far as I know there is nothing in particular to watch out for. Check that shock recall has been done if early 2014 bike. Services up to date. Check for corrosion. Look carefully at paint on engine and drive shaft. Check that all electrical switches work.

For reference my 2014 bike has no clocked 33000 miles and is running well. No oil consumption and no corrosion. Here in UK if bike has been ridden in winter then I think the biggest complaint is the poor paint finish. Check out the threads on corrosion.

Yes!
However as you say, tyres can age, so factor that in with the purchase.
Brake hoses are not a problem being braided SS.
Obviously the fuel may need to be replaced as it may have deteriorated.
Clutch and brake fluids should be flushed (brake and clutch are different specs for fluid I believe).
A good service is also in order, however there is not much to service on the Wethead.

Clutch fluid is good for life of the bike. A 2014 wouldn't need that changed. Lifetime might mean to not worry about it, but somewhere down the road I will change mine for peace of mind.
WERKS Quiet Ride windshields and Headlight Protectors for R 1200-1250 RT. 2021 and up RT Quiet Ride Windshields.

Agree and remember it is a different fluid to brakes. DO NOT use brake fluid in clutch.
