Air Filters...

Post by krmac37 »

Is anyone running k&n or pipercross air filters on a 07 RT? Any good reports?

I ran a pipercross on my Hayabusa and the airbox noise was addictive. Just wondered what experiences anyone has had?

I put a K&N in my 1200ST for a bit - I picked it up cheap, so thought I'd give it a whirl. Waste of time really! Certainly no more intake noise - I wasn't expecting any though, so wasn't disappointed! - certainly no better throttle response - I wasn't expecting any though, so wasn't disappointed! - the only thing I was disappointed with was what a complete and utter faff it was cleaning the bloody thing, and then re-oiling it, at service time! Bearing in mind you can get a genuine filter for under £15 if you shop around, or an OE-spec Mann/Mahle for under a tenner, I'd say save your money!  :)

Oh, I sold the K&N for a profit to someone else expecting wondrous things to happen!  ;D

Funnily enough, the real reason I bought the K&N was for the 'money-saving' aspect.....'no need to buy a new filter ever again'! But I do prefer the '10 mins to fit a new original one' line really! I reckon the cleaning/re-oiling/drying was a 45-min job, not including removing/refitting the plastics....and it's a mucky job too.
Spend the money  not spent on a set of iridium plugs, DCPR8EIX.....it won't sound any better, but it'll tick over smoother and pick up a tad better at low speed too....money well spent!

Thanks Pete. I'm just about to replace oils, etc, so I'll throw a set in.

If you're looking for the iridium plugs on eBay, search under 'Fiat' in the car section - they fit various models with the 1.2 16v engine (Punto, Bravo/Brava etc) - quite often, you'll find them a lot cheaper than when they're listed for our bikes - my last set cost me under a tenner! They also fit the late 80s Maserati Biturbo....but I reckon they'll be £20 apiece listed for one of them!

I don’t like the cotton / gauze filters that require oil. It just sucks the oil into the throttle bodies gumming them up. A quality paper filter works best. IMHO

Good parts ain’t cheap and cheap parts ain’t good !

With Hiflo being less than £6 each, tend to change the air filter every 6,000 miles.
