Newbie...a few questions about my 2010 RT 1200 SE

Post by davef1uk »

Hello all.  Just bought my first RT 1200 SE

Noticed a flashing Brake failure light, delivery driver said it’s be fine when you ride. Which it is, doesn’t flash when I’m riding?  Could this be a sensor issue?

Next are corrosion on the points I have shown in my photos.

Any help or advice to correct these would be helpful.  Also anyone know best way or person the clean up my alloys and exhaust ??

Yeah the light flashes until you set off, that's normal 👍same with all ABS equipped bikes from my experience. I use Silver Smoothrite on my silver bits that needed repainting due to corrosion under the paint, others have had them powder coated. Cam covers are magnesium so they can't be powder coated.
The GS 'is' the better bike :-)

Ahh thanks Simbo.  So the cam covers I can’t  powder coat so does that mean new ones or can I get them sorted??

Cheers

I had my damaged '06 RT's rocker cover repaired by a mobile 'smart repair' guy. Perfect paint match, invisible repair....£40.

It's this chap, Chris - http://smartrefinish.co.uk/
He's in the Sheffield area though, so possibly not local to you!

Welcome and congratulations!  I have a twin-cam that I have had since Jan 13.  It's a great bike and, even though mine has an easy life, I have a couple of issues with corrosion.  Fortunately in my case it is the lower fairing stays and centre stand that are affected and these are easy to unbolt.  I will send them off for powder coating once we get back from Spain in June.

What were you riding before?
