Since I will be based in France, I wonder if it would benefit me to buy and register the bike in the UK, at least until it comes time to re-register?
Take it from a fellow expat, registering a vehicle in France is a costly exercise. Conversely, if you continue to rely on your UK insurance take care to not exceed the number of days of foreign travel you're permitted.
