I've read posts on other bike forums & FB pages about folks going out riding their bikes for pleasure, not essential journeys.

Going off the amount of folk knocking about round here over the weekend, I don't blame them for dragging the bike out for a little mental relief. Even the vicar next door had a little gathering (6) with his Bee keeping buddies! And that's twice in the same amount of weeks, he's immune though I guess? What with having connections upstairs an all that lol.

Think the public are getting fed up with lock down, especially as most probably don't know anyone who has caught Covid. But that is probably because of the lockdown and the isolation rules. Lots quote Sweden and the model they have followed, but if you research their death rates, there's are higher than any other country per population numbers.

I think the people will not put up with lockdown for much longer and the press certainly are pushing to a controlled lift. I really hope the number of infections and deaths don't start to rise massively if we do lift lockdown as going back into lockdown will push a lot of the public over the edge.

Wish there was a definitive way forward, but I expect it will be a gamble.

Before 23rd March, voluntary social distancing wasn't working. The guidelines were not being followed and therefore, the lockdown was implemented. Without the lockdown, how many more deaths would there have been.

Even with a potential relaxing of the lockdown, I just don't know how I feel about going out. You are only responsible for yourself and not the actions of others. Give folks a yard and they'll take 2m.

If I was a sceptic then I would suggest that the government accountants (in various countries) are busy working out what they consider is an acceptable balance of deaths /cost to the NHS against the long term financial damage to themselves and society. The figures they come up may be what dictates the timescale of lockdown reduction.

This is before they start to worry about the risk of civil unrest which other countries have seen.
