"The cardan shaft is a secondary drive between manual gearbox and rear wheel and is distinguished by its extremely long service life and consistently high performance.
This removes the need for time-consuming maintenance work."
"The bore hole in the axle pipe also ensures effective heat discharge out of the rear axle housing."

Re: Differential Rear Spline Lubrication Interval
BMW Warranty will not cover: repair or replacement required wholly or partially due to lack of maintenance.
There is no BMW service (maintenance) recommendation for the driveshaft.
I'd rather leave things alone and not give them an excuse not to pay out should the driveshaft fail because I've buggered about with it.

Re: Differential Rear Spline Lubrication Interval
Each year, I have a monthly "pay as you go" warranty between April & October inc.
There is an option available to be able to renew it up to when the bike has done 80,000 miles.

How about this for a theory. Does this photo suggest that any "sliding" takes place between the different diameters of the driveshaft, within the cushion drive.
BMW call it, "a torsional vibration damper is integrated into the cardan shaft for greater comfort".
Here's a thread from R1200GS.info, https://www.r1200gs.info/threads/final- ... sue.48429/ scroll down to reply #16, looks very similar to the above.

Yeah right and the moon’s made of green cheese, the earth’s flat and David Ike talks sense.

Re: Differential Rear Spline Lubrication Interval
It appears that if the rear UJ to FD unit splines are badly seized together, there may be a risk of front UJ to gearbox output shaft becoming disconnected when dropping the FD unit.
This is exactly what happened in this video, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c1_1gPR ... u.be&t=946 see around 19:15.
