I used a Givi V46 top case with a specific rear rack on my 2007 Hexhead.

It does rather depend on the effect you are trying to achieve.

Ebay, Motorworks etc. might provide a old, cheap OE box which you might like to get resprayed. It will still require a key to lock it.

The Givi V56 Maxia comes with an option for keyless opening via an phone app (Kit E175) and also pre-painted covers (option CV47). The covers do mask the bulk of the case and smarten it up.

The Givi V47 Maxia comes with an option for keyless opening via a fob  (Kit E132) and also pre-painted covers (option CV47). I think the E132 is also compatible with the older V55 Maxia (call Givi on this).  There are also optional racks for both the above.

The Shad SH48 has options for adding a painted cover as well.

Kappa luggage is made by Givi but without some of the frilly options and there are some good Case incl. fitting kit choices on eBay.

When I bought my first 1200RT in 2005 there were no aftermarket kits, so I had to buy BMW. 15 years later it is on its second respray.

A secondhand BMW one looks the part and fits straight on. My dealer changed the lock FOC, to match the other locks.

What size are looking for? I got a 29 litre BMW topbox off eBay for 75 quid. Absolutely mint.
If you take your time eBay can throw some bargains up.

I would always go for the BMW topbox. If you need to re-key the lock a new barrel is only £19.

Having one key fits all locks is a bonus but at what cost.

The Givi Top Case on my 2007 RT got damaged & needed replacing, the Dealers wouldn't fit a Non-OEM Part, therefore I paid the difference in cost & got the BMW 49L Box.

It's worth remembering that as far as I know, the old style 49L top case,
https://www.online-parts.co.uk/bmw-bike ... nth=04#sub fits the Wethead

and is around half the price of the one listed for the Wethead itself, https://www.online-parts.co.uk/bmw-bike ... nth=01#sub

If you wish to take your BMW top case on/off frequently, IMO, the old style 49L case is more user friendly, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M9dDg9s7f1M

than the one listed for the Wethead, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Dg5Lhk023_c same as K1600GT.

Cant fit an Led brake light on the earlier box or auto lock then you have to physically lock/unlock with a key.

If I were to go with something other than the OEM topcase, I think it would be the variable capacity SHAD top case. I really like the looks and how it functions.

That said, I did buy the expensive OEM top case for my 2014 RT when new. They gave me more than I expected for my RT trade-in, figured it was a good omen to buy the current OEM top case. Absolutely no regrets about it. There is NO equal in quality.

I have the OEM top case and it is ok.
If I were doing it again it would be the SHAD SH58.
It just would work for what I want out of the top case.
It also looks a whole lot better than the brick that BMW use!

I've had a shad for 2 years on my RT.... give it high marks for its ability to change volumes and generally solid build.    Now that the RT has gone from Ebony black to Mars Red,  I want to get a color panel and get it painted to match the bike.
