Furkot.com works for both mobile and desktop browser, free and paid $15, there is a support thread on advrider.com the interface is sometimes confusing, but generally handy.

Google maps on a phone mounted on a powered quad lock above the dash. I can easily add & edit waypoints, it displays speed limit (when available) as well as gps speed and trip time remaining and it's very easy to use. It also switches to satellite or street view which gets me to appointments on time every time. I have travelled about 4000 kms in the last two months and Google maps has been very useful on both long trips and my travels around cities I would otherwise have difficulty navigating.
If I wanted the bike built in "joystick" on left hand cluster to work my navigation system then I would be forced to spend money on bmw's offering. Not having the apple iphone mentality, I cannot bear to lock myself into a restricted product range of questionable value at inflated prices. :(
