2009 versus 2016 1200RT

Post by mojorod »

Hey guys, getting rid of the land pig 2013 Road Glide Ultra and have decided on either a 2009 or 2016 1200RT. There is a $6K difference in purchase price. The 2009 would be a wash with my trade in whole the 2016 would leave me to pay the difference.

The 2009 has 14K miles while the 2016 has 800 miles, each with a tourpack, the 2016 with the GPS package, but I do have a Zumo 590LT for the 2009. The 2009 is oil and air cooled and a hex head, while the 2016 is pretty much up to date technologically and water cooled.

I don't mind paying the 6k difference and I can get a 3 year warranty for 1500.00

I have gone through the pros and cons, but just cannot decide as I have little experience with the BMW 1200RT line. I did ride the 2016 RT and a GS as well. The GS seemed to handle better in the curves, but my time will be spent on 2 or 3 long 2 to 3 k miles trips per year.

Looking for your opinions based on your experience on which direction to move towards. I think Saturday will be my decision day.

Thanks,

You can't go wrong with 2016 RT
I have had 1999 RT,  2004 RT, 2013 RT, 2017 RT

I miss the Electric Servo brakes in 2004.

2014 and newer is the way to go hands down. Wet Clutch and Liquid cooled
Excellent throttle response.....(no cable)

mojorod, if you choose the 2009, I want the 2016 with only 800 miles!  What are they wanting for the 2016 RT?
I love all my toys equally; motorcycles, boats, golfing, fishing, camping, F250 King Ranch
