Crush Washers and O Ring

Post by David. »

With a little help from a friend, decided to take a punt on the following crush washers from Wemoto.

Sump drain - BMW 16x20, Wemoto - 16x22, https://www.wemoto.com/parts/picture/hl-910061_50

Gearbox fill - BMW 18x22, Wemoto - 18x24, https://www.wemoto.com/parts/picture/hl-910063_50

Gearbox drain - BMW 14x18, Wemoto - 14x20, https://www.wemoto.com/parts/picture/hl-910060_50

In all cases above, the OD is 2mm larger than OEM but worth a go, the ID is probably the most important.

Final drive fill - BMW 12x16, Wemoto - 12x16, https://www.wemoto.com/parts/picture/hl-910027_50

All for a grand total of £1.76 inc. free P&P.

Sump drain - BMW 16x20, https://www.online-parts.co.uk/bmw-bike ... =119963252

Gearbox fill - BMW 18x22, https://www.online-parts.co.uk/bmw-bike ... =119963300

Gearbox drain - BMW 14x18, https://www.online-parts.co.uk/bmw-bike ... =119963200

Final drive fill - BMW 12x16, https://www.online-parts.co.uk/bmw-bike ... =119963132

These are the same items from a BMW parts website, total cost = £5.82 + shipping.

Motorworks sell the full range of crush washers for a Camhead RT, but charge £3.90 P&P.

Found this O ring, https://estore.chester-motorrad.co.uk/3 ... .html  £0.60 + £3.95 P&P.

Could always send them a SAE for 2 x 65p second class stamps = £1.30 P&P.

There's a lot more to P&P than sending a SAE for 2 x 65p second class stamps you know?.. someone's got to get/buy the envelopes and stamps for starters, then they've got to find the parts you require and pack them in the the envelope, then they've got to arrange a method of postage/shipping. Not everyone's sat at home creating pointless threads you know? some people go out to work and 'earn' a living.

My intention was to send Chester Motorrad a SAE, all they would have to do is pick the O ring from their stores, put it in the SAE provided & pop it in the post.

Exactly! Even their time picking the O ring from their stores is worthless to you in your opinion, why not get on your bike and go and get the O ring if everything costs so little? If only we were all so important that everyone else should run around us for free.

In the past, Cooper BMW Sunderland have very kindly posted small items like O rings FOC.

If not successful with the postage option, will just pick one up next time the bike is serviced at a BMW dealer.

I'll buy a 50 pack of each for the sump drain, gearbox fill & gearbox drain plugs. Should be able to ship them out and make a tidy profit.

If this is supposed to be a veiled attempt at an apology it falls well below the mark. The originator of this thread is a valued member of our Forum who has contributed countless excellent, helpful and informative posts without resorting to personal attacks. Shame on you.

After having taken advice from Martin Lewis, the "original" Money Saving Expert, I'd like to make you aware of today's latest offers.
Let your fingers do the walking & phone someone. This is beneficial for social contact & keeps someone employed rather than faceless online shopping.

Ring Gary in the parts dept. at Chester Motorrad on 0151 373 4802 and he'll sort you out a deal. The postage was significantly less than via the online store.

Ring Josh at GWR Fasteners on 01691 654979 and he'll sell you any quantity of crush washers, no minimum order.
They just divide the cost of a pack by 50 to get a price for one item.

If you can get together with a friend to share the postage, it's even better.

I've now got all four crush washers plus one O ring for a Camhead RT on their way for an average of 35p each inc. P&P.

The final drive fill plug is 12 x 16 in Cu (as per OEM),  they can be purchased for 31p each.

If you've be happy to fit an Al crush washer, (like all others),  they can be purchased for 4p each.

Cu does bump up the price over Al.
