I have used 2 types.
The first type is the sort you can get from Aeroflow and the likes, It is held on with 'Velcro'. No they don't generate noise. I no longer use this type as I find they refract the light a little which I prefer not to have.


The second type is the heavy duty '3M' film from the likes of The Tankslapperz. This doesn't offer as much protection, but it does keep the beam pattern sharper. It also means that I don't have to take the protector off to wash between it and the headlamp lens.

I got this one installed: WERKS BMW Headlight Protector (werksparts.com)
No issues.
