Carry a spare fuel pump elbow joint

Post by jackronner »

Had one go dangerously bad on my '05 (luckily just as I'd finished a 4k mile tour), and had to replace a bad one when it was seen to be leaking by the mechanic when I had the fuel pump replaced pursuant to the latest recall.  Just a weak plastic piece at the top of the pump that can ruin your tour.  They said there are metallic after-market ones, but it would void the warranty, but didn't think to ask if they meant the whole fuel pump or just the piece.

Beemer Boneyard sell these kits for Hexheads, https://www.beemerboneyard.com/cpcqkdisconr12.html

"These are made by the same company that supplies the OEM plastic units."

You would have thought that a replacement part of equivalent or better spec. than OEM was acceptable from a warranty point of view.

Agree, especially since it's the same company!  Don't know if this is a well-known problem, but both of my bikes had it, with no wrecks or even exposing the pump assembly while wrenching on the bike.  So, you'd think they'd like to avoid  yet another recall, much less some nasty fire liability court cases. Penny-wise, pound-foolish.

From what I can see on the BB photo, the fuel line connectors have CPC engraved on them.

Google searching for CPC fuel couplings has found this, as an example, https://www.tom-parker.co.uk/products/c ... -barb/654/

"Tom Parker Ltd stock, market and distribute over 30,000 high quality fluid power products. Our core brands consist of Colder Products Company (CPC)".

This is the BMW plastic elbow made by CPC.

Motorworks sell this plastic one, https://www.motorworks.co.uk/vlive/Shop ... 5_35_GA_50
