My 1250 is poorly

Post by Casbar »

Out riding last week and the SOS warning flashed up for about 5 mins then disappeared. Then on Tuesday it flashed up again but didn't go away. Took it into the dealers on Friday, they confidently told me it would need a software update which would take around 4 hours.

But apparently the software update wasn't the answer and it might be a faulty telemetries module, but they haven't seen this before so have raised a technical query with the mothership. Optimistically they have said it should be ready by next Friday, but obviously they don't know the answer yet.

Bike is a 2019 model with 6k on the clock, only had a service a couple of weeks ago as well :)

I have a F900R as a loaner, which is quite a hoot.

Great fun to ride. Chain drive, not belt. Would have one or a 1250R as a hooning bike. Riding position is not too extreme.

Had the R1250R as a loan bike while mine was in for its 12k service last week. Wasn't for me, lack of wind protection and what  felt like a cramped riding  position wasn't comfortable.

Hope the bike gets sorted soon, at least you've got the reassurance that BMW dealers tend to look after you.

I bought a 2018 1200RT in December and on my first ride out the SOS warning came up, fortunately it was only a software issue. Hope yours gets sorted soon Mike, it's a horrible feeling when you see the warning triangle come up!

My Manhattan Metallic R1250RT '20 (production date november 2019), which I bought new 3 months ago, has only 1400km on the clock now, and from the beginning the RT had the same SOS warning issue.

Also had latest the software update, which should solve the SOS warning issue, but like your bike it didn't and therefore the dealer will install a new Telematica Module next thursday.
Unfortunately the mechanic has to remove a lot of bodywork and fueltank where the module is located.

I hate it when mechanics take apart my new bike, but even more I hate that yellow triangle......

Fingers crossed!

Update, BMW UK no idea, have now raised a question with BMW Germany. Off on holiday after the Bank Holiday, they are giving me a K1600 if no news by Tuesday

I had a problem with an sos warning which would not go away. Called out BMW and it turned out to be a loose battery terminal.

They have completed a 4 plus hour software update, so I would hope they have checked the battery connections. But who knows :)

Bike is still not fixed. Just got back from a 450 mile trip to Cornwall on a K1600GLT, only had 800 miles on it when they loaned it to me. No longer thought :)

Couple of weeks ago my R1250RT got a new Telematica Module. Ever since everything is okay, didn't have the SOS warning anymore.

Hope get it sorted soon. Read a few reports of sos malfunctioning so not uncommon.

The issue seems to be getting a response from BMW Germany and the Traffic Master team. Just spoke to BMW Customer services to chase (Dealer recommended me phoning them). They are also asking if they can give me the bike back even if it isn't fixed. But although I'm not that bothered about the SOS thing, I don't see why I should ride around with something I paid for that doesn't work :)

I wouldn't except the bike back until its fixed. If you have their loaner and are putting miles on it, make sure they know that, then the pressure is on them to get your bike fixed.

A mate of mine had so much problem with the SOS system on his new GS that in the end he demanded a replacement bike without the system. He got it too. Cannot remember if his was a GS or Adventurer. He's had so many bikes I lost count.

Hold out for a fix.

I wouldn't accept bike back without compensation or written promise of future fix, or as above replacment.
