Shift up indicator

Post by paulgelineau »

My 2015 1200RT has the "shift up" indicator and I'm curious what that is predicated on.  Speed, torque, RPM or a combination of all?  I don't generally use it to tell me when to shift as after 30+ years of riding I can tell when to shift up or down.  Just a curiosity question.
Cheers,
Paul G.

Seems to be on RPM,  guess it about meeting the emissions regulations.

On my 2020 it appears to be for economy, not sure of the parameters used but similar to my wife's car. If your light on the throttle it suggests shifting up. I switched mine off, found it distracting having an orange light / symbol appearing on the dash...... as with you, I know when to shift

As above, pretty sure it is "economy focused" to help you get better mileage...  Peter

On the KTM 1290, you can adjust it yourself, obviously it won't let you go higher than the max rpm.

Mine is definitely economy/emissions based. I've turned it off as I find it annoying

They work in a strange way!

steadily cruising along it will tell you to go in as high a gear as possible

Giving it some stick it will tell you to hold the gears longer

I turned mine off as I found myself following its advise and the bike just felt like it was in the wrong gear all the time
