My daughter and I were riding in 100F weather a while ago.  We took the bladders from our camelbaks, loaded them with ice and then gatorade and stuffed them into the back protector pocket of our mesh jackets.  Back protector on the outside, camelbak on the inside.  Looked like a pair of hunchbacks but the cold on the back was wonderful and we had a nice supply of drinks.  Lasted about 2 hours and then had to refill.  We stayed reasonably cool and hydrated that way.  I do this whenever the weather is hot now.

Cal,  Maybe you'll start a new, hunchback of Notre Dame, fashion trend:  Quasi-modish?

Hey Calico, I also am a firm believer whatever works for riding in HEAT!!
Years ago, a couple of people I rode/toured with would also fill up their camelback bladders from ice machines at a quick stop, (with permission). I live in western Washington state and now I'm thinking about buying a camelback for when the riding temp exceeds 85°.
Since my body can no longer easily acclimate to sudden hot/cold like it used to.  :(
