Zumo 660 cradle, unusual issues advice needed please

So the new to me zumo 660 cradle has been wired into my rtp2014 TC
The sat nap will turn on when I switch the ignition on, however it won’t charge.  When I turn the bike off the GPS doesn’t shut down automatically as it should.

If I wire the cradle direct to a 12v battery everything works as you would expect.

I have checked the voltage when it’s attached to the bike and it looks to be about 10.5 v

I wonder if this could be the issue?  It all looks like it’s wired in correctly to the bike, yet doesn’t behave? Any experts out there? Thanks

I assume that the sat. nav. is a Zumo 660, if so, it's the same as mine in a Zumo 660 cradle on a 2012 Camhead.

What I've understood from your post is that at 10.5v, the unit doesn't charge but at 12v it does. Where have you got the cradle connected when through the ignition, I'd expect that voltage to be the same as the battery voltage. (The electrics on an RTP may be different to a civvy bike).

I've read that the car mounts are designed to work between 10v - 24v input. If your "looks to be about 10.5v" is actually less, this could be the problem.
More research (Googling) has revealed that with a voltage of less than 12v, the unit won't charge in the cradle on a motorcycle.

I've got my cradle -ve wired to the battery and the +ve is a switched live from the rear onboard socket. If yours works from the battery, just hardwire it to the battery. This latter arrangement is how I have it on my second bike, just means the cradle is always powered up. Doesn't seem to cause any problems, I don't leave the sat. nav. on the bike.

Low voltage could certainly do that but you would need to check what the input voltage is supposed to be

I would be more inclined to look for the reason behind the low voltage at that connector as it should be the same as the battery voltage or near enough

Find the issue and solve that problem to make sure it doesn't lead to a potential breakdown

Found this detail of the pins on the Zumo 660 cradle, thought it might be useful for future reference.

It suggests a battery power of ~13.8v, presumably, this is when the engine is running.

Looks like there is sufficient voltage to "wake-up" the unit but not charge it.

Another indication that the unit is not being charged. When the external power is lost, a message pops up saying external power is lost and 30 seconds starts ticking down. Pressing any button during that 30 seconds keeps it powered on but if no button is pressed, powers off when zero is reached.

Just for reference thats the same pin out for a BMW nav prep too

As the BMW Nav. prep. is the same as a Zumo 660 cradle, a BMW Nav. VI will fit into a 660 cradle, power up and provide audio output.

You definitely need to post up some pictures of exactly how the SatNav is wired into the bike. It is easy to make a mistake.
