Temperature Sensor Connection

I am reassembling the right top end after a piston & head replacement and cannot reconnect the temperature sensors wire.
Completely baffled… all the other electrical connections work fine, but the wire from the head has a slot on the side (male) and the corresponding harness wire has a slot in the middle (female).
I have looked at all other connections and they appear to be correct. In addition there is a spare connector sleeve that I cannot account for.
Have I lost my mind?
