Loud OEM exhaust on '22 RT

Post by mcrider »

My new '22 RT seems to have a very loud exhaust. Anyone else have a similar experience? Appreciate any insights. Thanks.

Normally a loud OEM exhaust is due to a stuck exhaust butterfly valve.

I saw some posts about a stuck exhaust valve but did not realize it could make the exhaust louder. I will take off the exhaust and see if I can look at the valve. Thanks.

What are you comparing it to?

I have seen people comparing the 1200 to the 1250 and most have said that the 1250 is a little louder than the 1200

I'm comparing to two previously owned 1200 RT's and the '22 1250 seems much louder. I think it beats the '17 Harley I had.

I removed the entire butterfly from my 17 RT. It has made almost no difference to the exhaust noise volume. The only difference is occasionally some slight popping on shifting and deceleration.

If the flap wax stuck on a 22reg then you would have a warning light on the dash, the older models didn't do this but all the new 1250rts will.

Yes that is a good point and if it is a 22 reg just call/take it back to the dealer. The flapper valve failed at 23 months on my 2019 R1250RT and you could only hear the difference if you started up next to something that bounced the sound back... Luckily for me covered under warranty:-). Peter
