Please don't think that I'm trying to interfere with your plans MikeS. It wouldn't mind at all if you ignored all of my ramblings.

Looking forward to it already.
Great to have contributions, especially as you've been there recently. At this rate I'll have nothing left to do.

Me neither, just contributing to the discussion.
As above

Dumfries will be the first RT meet north of the England/Scotland border. This might encourage some more northern members to attend.

Looked up the Premier Inn and is reasonable if booked well in advance.Screenshot_20221010-153909.pngScreenshot_20221010-154330.png

However, if Michael (or whoever) wants to plan a European trip I would happy to join that and nominate myself for the 2024 meet.
What route planning software are you using Mike?

Probably start off with google maps, then try and put it onto basecamp. Although I struggle with basecamp I'm not sure how else to share the route.
If you've got any suggestions for something better I'll give it a go.

I've heard other people talk about it. I'll have a look at it.
I assume you can save the route as a gpx file on it.

There is many options with Myroute App you can save/share routes in many different formats.

Its online based and you can use it on your PC and on your mobile phone. All routes are saved online so you can access them from any location.

depending on the sat nav you use depends on how you transfer too. I have the Zumo XT and can easily transfer routes from my mobile phone via bluetooth.

Other sat navs require a cable connection.

You can also create a group so if you have a group of friends all using MyRoute App then you can easily share routes.

There is a free version and a paid version.

One thing I will say is spend some time with it learning what everything does and how routes transfer and in what format etc as some ways strip out all the shaping points and going off route can destroy a route this issue is caused by selecting the wrong file to transfer

I use Tourstart.org, it's really easy to use and share routes in gpx format. It's about 19 euros a year.

With BaseCamp routes can be created and saved as .gpx or .gdb files, then emailed to others.

https://www.plotaroute.com/routeplanner will output gpx.

If creating routes in Google Maps, then https://mapstogpx.com/ will create a gpx file from the map link.

Im booked Thursday Friday Saturday at PI . Wife may be coming. Have provisionally got ok for time off but may have to cancel later.

Basecamp is free and cant see point in paying for an inferior app. Admit the map is a little unusual but ok when understood or use Google maps alongside it. Eagle riders learn garmin basecamp is best place to start to learn. If you want help with it Mike just Pm me. We all have diffrent prefrences whatever works for you.

With lots of help from Bob21 and lots of YouTube tutorials, I finally got my head around Basecamp.

Then I ‘saw the light’ and converted to Tourstart. Best Eur 19 I’ve spent this year.
