Top box too small

Post by Dreadnought »

So you get a touring bike and yet the topbox is internally about 10mm to low to fit a full face lid on its side. Tried all three of mine (bell, agv & shoei) all dont quite fit....

Is the newer top box smaller as a GT Air II fits in my topbox either way.

The new LC top-box is sleeker, better-looking, introduces central locking but - crucially for some - is not as tall.

Which is why I still use my be-stickered 2005 top-box. Oh - and I am a tight so-and-so.

I have the 49lt topbox and can fit 2 x shoei neotec helmets in side by side.
I found if you take the carpet mat out of the bottom you don't have to press hard on the lid to close it.

So that tells you that BMW engineers do not listen to their customers , after all £17,000 for a motorcycle is not cheap !!!!!

Due to the price BMW charges for a non-colour matched top box, i bought a new 49ltr box off eBay for £40. Ok it is not up to the quality of the bikes it does hold 2 helmets and locks. It has a large reflector on the rear which i fitted 3 LED strips behind. Really shows up bright at night and it's not too close to confuse them as a brake lamp.
£1000 for a top box is a joke on the buyer.
Trust me I am a retired Doctor and lecturer at Oxford University of Structural and Mechanical/Electrical engineering.
