Am I missing something?
Apart from avatars
I know some people's have been broken since the forum software change and the members need to either upload a new one or delete the broken one.
I haven seen anyones disappearing and coming back though? Is that's what's happening?

I have just answered my own question here 
I will have a look to see if I can see what is causing the issue
