Been thinking about a sat nav for my 2018 Bike (Mat
ron as my friend's have named her!)

Ive got a TomTom 550 which i know i can get an adaptor for, however, i really like the intergrated look of the BMW Nav unit, are there any pitfalls with the BMW nav system over the Tom Tom one?

I was in the same position when I moved onto the RT from a Pan. I had sold the Satnav with the bike so bought a Nav5 to integrate with the BM, the main problem was that I just couldn’t get on with the Garmin… hated it so much that after 3 months I sold it and bought a TomTom again. I hadn’t actually found much to miss in the non-integration of the Wonder-wheel and such, I was just so much happier to have a satnav that I was used to and didn’t curse on a daily basis!

The adaptor is cheap and works, more could you need?

If you have the budget, the Zumo XT is the unit to buy. Best unit I have ever owned. Check the reviews

I would not buy the now-obsolete and rather overpriced BMW unit. The Zumo XT has a far higher resolution screen (TFT vs LCD). I sold my Navigator V to move in this direction.
I've nothing at all against Tom-Tom - it's just that I've been using Garmin units since before Tom-Tom was a twinkle in its inventor's eye.

Whatever you decide, do invest in the lockable satnav kit from Wunderlich.

I can’t disagree with the posts above as I have never tried the XT and have only ever read glowing reviews, but for myself I was very happy to return to a TomTom. I guess it’s what you’re used to, though from what I’ve read you’ll still need an adaptor? So you’re in the same situation as with the TomTom.

One thing I would advise though is using the OLDTIMERS satnav lock, which is virtually identical to Wunderlich but less expensive. €110 against £159

Many thanks for all this and to all those who have commented and shared.

After much reading, and even trying a Nav 5, I think I'm going to sell the TomTom and go for a Nav 5 as it'll do 95% of what I want (mainly riding around the UK and Mainland Europe) and I have a phone for the shortfall.
