I have a 2005 RT, a recent purchase.

The PO had his fuel strip replaced/repaired; less than 2000 miles later the fuel gauge is not working- again.

My first thought was...it is a fuse? Well, no fuse block. So....

Tossing it out there...anyone have a suggestion? Thank you.

Was the fuel strip replaced by a BMW dealer, if so, AFAIK, replacement parts have a 2 year warranty.

I think you would need a receipt for the repair or go back to the dealer who did the work as they should have a record of this.

I do have the receipt from February 2021.
The itemized invoice says "no warranties on fuel strips." Cost was $158.

A "Search" will find many threads on the subject of the fuel strip/gauge. This is one of the most recent, viewtopic.php?p=64357&hilit=fuel+gauge#p64357

Options seem to be, buy a new fuel strip which may be an improved version, zapping it, change to a float or not bother and rely on the mileage trip recorder, keeping the tank topped up.

I had the fuel strip replaced in my '09 RT by the dealer
last month

2 year parts and Labor warranty on it.

Fingers crossed it's working perfectly,accurate range and litres left in the tank.i still use the trip meter,an old habit from older days of no fuel gauge

BMW will only cover the fuel strip warranty if fitted by a BMW Motorrad agent. Bit of a bummer as there are a lot of BMW techs working for themselves now and charging a lot less for their hourly rate.
Mine is being fixed on the 5th under the 2 year warranty. Thanks to the previous owner for only having the bike serviced at BMW.

Had my fuel strip replaced back in November. The lad who usually works on my bike, an authorised BMW workshop, said BMW no longer gave the " year warranty unless supplied and fitted by Dealers.
Had it replaced back in 2015 ( 2005 bike ) when I bought the bike under warranty and has lasted over 7 years, which I'm told was good. BMW have supposedly updated the fuel strip as it was a common fault.

It's only a year if it was changed under warranty. If you paid to have it changed it is two years.
