BMW R1200RT/R1250RT Forum

I overlooked this before, but discovered while I was washing up the bike that there is a noticeable split in the bottom of the dust boot, def big enough to let contaminants into the joint. Is this difficult at all? TIA -Doug

What is meant by "front Telelevr dust boot".

Is this referring to #7 dust cap on the fork leg.

If it's number 13. Am sure a new dust cover only comes with the ball joint and can not be purchased separately
If it's number 7. That's an easy job. Wheel off and drop the fork legs. Dust cover off and replace. Whilst at this point you may as well change the oil seal at the same time. I did this a few weeks back, took just over an hour.

Unlucky #13 for me, it could well be the dust boot on the ball joint.

13 has always been lucky for me. Most of the houses ive lived in, the numbers have added up to 13

A replacement ball joint gaiter is available from Motorworks,

That's handy. I stand corrected. Me being me i would go the whole hog and replace the ball joint. I do go OTT when fixing things

Found this video, not in English but is on an R1200GS Hexhead.

Thanks @David I am going to grab the one at the boneyard. I am little burned out on working on the bike go figure and I still need to do the brakes, waiting for the pads to show up as well, but I got a great ride in today!!! Bike runs GREAT! I was taking it easy waiting for the clutch to bed in and around 150mi it felt like it was ready to go. I forgot how much fun it is to rip around on the backroads on an RT!!! This is one of the best all around bikes you can buy IMO.

I ran up to Lynchburg TN where they distill the famed Jack Daniels Old No. 7 Whiskey, about 50 miles away, I live in N. Alabama about 7 miles south of the AL/TN stateliness. It was 69F and sunny (bit windy) but made for a great ride!!! Woohoo!
