Wunderlich rear dirt-trap help!

Post by Myveetwin »

Mrs Veetwin got me some Wunderlich Dirt-Trap Splash-Cover bits from Nippy Normans for my Birthday (should keep her feet dry when she’s riding pillion). According to the website “easy and quick installation”.
I’ve hit a snag however - they’re supplied with M8 fixings to replace the pins which locate the rear foot-pegs. I’ve popped off the circlips from the pins but I can’t shift them! Am I missing something, or have the pins just corroded themselves solid? I’ve applied as much brute force as I dare…

Doesn't look like it, you are not alone with this problem, corrosion is the common issue here, viewtopic.php?p=63446&hilit=footpeg#p63446

Success! But they really need to change fitting instructions, there’s no way removing those pins is “quick and easy”. No corrosion anywhere, these must be interference fit. I must have been pounding away for at least 10 minutes a side.

Mine were definitely corroded and took a fair bit of heat and force to remove them. I ran a drill bit through the holes by hand and made sure that they were bunged up before powder coating last week.
I'd like to know what you think of those Wunderlich panels when they are fitted.

Hi

My previous RT (2017) the left hand pillion peg seized up and would not move it had not been used for some time ( Covid ) then when SWMBO needed a lift I struggled to get it to flip down took me at least half an hour with heat and a bar before it would move at all right hand side ( Over the exhaust) was no problem. I have the same dirt traps to fit and as the bike is only 2 months old I hope to be able to remove the pins easily this time.

Just noticed the two black cable ties, I'm surprised Wunderlich didn't think to provide silver/grey ones.

An improvement on black but silver/grey would be even better.
