Really! Well that's me well and truly stuffed.

No need for your poll. I retract my offer, incidentally made in good faith, but met with the usual intransigence. A discussion of relative merits or otherwise may have been useful but I should have known better. Some things never change.

The National Coal Mining Museum between Huddersfield & Wakefield looks favourable although the furthest from the North. Could have a circular ride into the Peak District from and back to the NCMM or everyone just do a scenic route for themselves to the NCMM and back home.
The idea is to have a ride in central location for all NM's who have expressed an interest in meeting up.
scunny12 wrote: Mon May 08, 2023 4:51 pmMakes sense to have a central rendezvous point.
With an option to have a circular ride out starting & finishing at the NCMM.

If anyone would like to offer alternative NM's meets/ride outs, starting new threads may avoid any confusion.

It's over 100 miles and 2 hours riding for me to get to Grindleford. Too far for me to get to the start of a ride out.

If you actually study the area around the NCMM, the options for circular rides, of any interest, will be limited to the Northern Peak District and possibly the area west of Barnsley unless a tour comprising a ride through Wakefield, Leeds, Bradford and Huddersfield is your thing. Personally at 73 years young, I need to make my rides count and that would be one I will happily pass on. Hopefully any future suggestions will gel better with your master plan and long may they continue.

That wasn't part of the original plan and no one suggested that you should meet at Grindleford. I think we could find our own way from Grindleford to the NCMM if we really had to. If I recall, we other interested parties could meet at the NCMM to head south into the Peak District for an hour to head back North to the NCMM to meet you when you had completed your 2.5 hour scenic ride to get to the NCMM to repeat after lunch. And so it goes on ....

How about this for a 3 hour circular ride from NCMM into the Peak District, with a P&T stop halfway at Grindleford.

Appreciate your efforts at inclusivity.......but..

I get this route to be 108 miles @ 3 hrs 15 mins saddle time. I suspect that may be ambitious for that route on a Peak District weekend (unless it's raining).
Breaks down into 1st session of approx. 50 miles and 1.5 hrs and 2nd session of approx. 58 miles and 1.75 hrs.

Assume 1030 start post brekkie and assume 30 min stopover at Grindleford, providing it's not as busy as hell on a weekend (which it will be) and assume the above timings can be kept to, the best estimate to be back at NCMM would be 1415.

The reality, on above route, which incidentally includes some of the main tourist roads, is that those timings are optimistic (bicycles, horses, motorhomes, tourist traffic, roadworks etc). I think you would be lucky to be back for 1445

....and where are the extra fag breaks.

Not clear if this is a route in which you would participate.

Bottom line, doesn't really work for me, but I'm quite happy, as indicated earler, to sit this one out and wait for summat more suitable.

Once again, appreciate the effort and only playing Devil's Advocate with the above comments as opposed to being bloody difficult for the sake of it.

Looks like the best thing to do on this occasion is the ride in lunchtime meet for 1pm at the NCMM.

David & Markus plus Chris (scunny12) a maybe, anyone else up for this one.

If anyone would like to offer something which is more suitable to them, please do, just start a new thread, thank you.

Sunday the 25th is the only Sunday in June I'll be free. I wouldn't mind meeting somewhere in Derbyshire for breakfast then doing a ride over to the coal museum for lunch, then back into Derbyshire to continue the ride before home.
The GS 'is' the better bike :-)

It may be difficult to find a Sunday in June which suits all the regular NM attendees.

Markus & I can do the 4th, Simbo can do the 25th, how about everyone else.

I reckon this could work, some really nice quiet roads, great views, Snake Pass etc.
A couple of decent pit stops:

The Schoolrooms Low Bradfield

Oil Can Cardingshed just outside Holmfirth

Edit; The above pit stops have been changed. See relevant post.

Garmin says 80 miles 2.5 hrs.
I suspect it will take nearer 3 but most of the roads should be quiet.
Will need an extra 30 mins for 2 pit stops so possibly 3 hrs but more likely 3.25 hrs to 3.5 hrs.

? 10.15 start to be back for 1330 a possibility.

Any Sat/Sun for me May/June with a bit of notice.

Any good?

That would work for a lunchtime meet up at the NCMM between 13:00 & 14:00.
